Hey There,
This blog post is going to be about the project management tools we are using for this whole project.
During the first few weeks we decided that we are going to use YouTrack as our main management tool.
It offers a lot of functionality and is very open for customization so it should fit the majority of projects quite well.
VCS Integration
YouTrack also has a great VCS integration for GIT repositories, this was especially very helpful because we are using two independent repositories for this project, both of them hosted on GitHub:
gyrogame-unity
{ Home to the main unity project of the game instance running on a PC }
and
gyrogame-hardware
{ Repository for the cube firmware written for the on-board arduino }
This did not pose any problems with YouTrack as it allows multiple VCS repositories for the same project.
When writing code for our Unity project, we can use the IDE Integrations from GitHub and YouTrack to manage everything from inside our development environment.
Scrum Board
Furthermore we have set-up a Scrum board that we use to organize our issues with the help of cards and current status information. Each sprint currently lasts a week and includes the project tasks and development progress at the time.
You can view our Scrum board here:
GyroGame – Scrum Board
Every issue is has the following attributes:
- Priority
- Assignees
- Project phase
- Workflow the issue is part of
- Time estimation (filled when creating the issue)
- Actual spent time (filled by time value in work units)
- State (To Do, In Progress, In Review, Done)
Reports and Graphs
One very more nice feature of YouTrack is that it lets you generate beautiful graphs and reports based on the data you feed it with.
A few examples:
Feel free to click on the Images to see the graphs on our YouTrack page.
Thats about it for now, until the next post,
Hello friendos,
i really like how you designed your blog entry. It looks very nice. Using screenshots to present your methods of project management is a very good idea since you can explain your diagrams and desicions in your blog and people can look it up on your Youtrack page.
As I can see you covered all the requirements of the GC.
Keep up your good work,
Team LogicGame
